Gumdale Medical Centre takes pride in delivering high-quality medical care. Unfortunately, the Medicare rebate only covers a small portion of these costs. Community General Practice is not subsidised by State or Federal Governments, unlike the hospital system, and are locally owned small businesses. Over the years, the Federal Government have frozen your Medicare rebates or only increased it marginally, while the costs of running our practices have continued to increase, like most households, businesses, and industries in our economy. Additionally, the Federal Health Department have lowered our rebates when “bulk billing” patients or, in some cases, have completely removed certain item number incentives, making it difficult for practices to absorb the cost of keeping their doors open while continuing to provide quality care. If you are concerned about these changes, we encourage you to voice your concerns to your Federal Member of Parliament – Ross Vasta MP 07 3893 3488 at 69 Clara Street, Wynnum QLD 4178
